Life happens

It’s been a while since I last posted, and there is a good reason for that.

I was involved in a motorcycle accident.

On 11 March 2011 on my way to work a car (Landrover Discovery) turned in front of me and I had nowhere to go. I hit the car on the left hand side and did myself some serious damage.

I broke both bones in my left leg under my knee. My right arm radial head connection into the elbow and my left hand. I also bumped my head and sustained a diffuse axonal injury, which I later found out is a devastating injury which not many recover from.

I spent 5 weeks in hospital, the first 5 days being in a coma. I can’t remember anything about my hospital stay except the last few days before being discharged.I was completely confused for the first week. I did not recognize any friends or family, but I was did converse with anybody willing to listen about a wide range of subjects, photography being one of them.

During the second week I sat bolt upright and demanded to see my wife

I’ve since recovered to the point where I’m home and going to physio once a week to get me back on my feet. My knee is healing well and I’ll likely not have a limp. My elbow does have some complication which we still need to resolve. All in good time.

I’m just very happy to still be here and still take some photos when I can. I’m also happy about the 30kg I lost while in hospital, tho I’ve started picking some up again so I don’t look like a zombie.

The most important take away from my accident is you have to life live to the fullest. You never know when it’s going to end.

    Welcome back.
Thank you for the last 2 sentences. I think we should all have those prominently displayed where we can see them. Every day. Especially where we lose sight of the big picture….

  4. Glad you’re blogging again :)
